NAWBO: The “Teal Print” for Women in Business

NAWBO’s “Teal Print” provides a platform for women business owners and business leaders to come together as one voice that translates into a formidable economic force and an effective agent of change in the business environment.

As the unified voice of over 10.1 million women-owned businesses and many women business leaders in the United States, your local chapter continues to mean business growth, opportunity and advancement.  As a woman in business, you encompass the fastest growing segment of the economy.

NAWBO has continued to represent the issues and concerns of small and women-owned businesses at the national and state levels. Through Congressional testimony, public policy conferences and member education, NAWBO has been at the forefront of advocacy on behalf of women business owners and the issues that impact women in business and their companies.

Our public policy luncheon hosted in Frankfort on September 27th will highlight the state of Kentucky as well as many pivotal triumphs for women in business throughout the bluegrass.  We will follow with a tour of the capitol.

We look forward to continuing to enhance our partnerships and strategic alliances while we continue to advocate for business growth, opportunity and advancement.   We sincerely hope you continue to join us as we leave our “Teal Print” in our community and Nation.  We have come a long way, but we aren’t finished.

-Jesika Young, NAWBO Kentucky President

NAWBO Membership

Staying in her “lane”

By Vanessa Pennoyer, Membership & HJI Supply Chain Solutions

Cindy Collier is dominating the transportation/trucking world! A once male-dominated industry is now revamped with a style and class that can only be Mister “P” Express. NAWBO celebrates and congratulates Cindy and everyone at Mister “P” Express on their 30th Anniversary!

Thirty years ago was an amazing moment in history when Cindy entered the man’s world of trucking and she continues to break stereotypes and define success with simple principles as she forges into the future! Cindy isn’t staying in her lane; she’s taking the whole road.

Cindy’s background in and love for the retail industry could have been a path worth pursuing given her success,  but she accepted the challenge of learning the transportation industry alongside her father, Allan Parnell, aka Mister “P”.  She used her sales knowledge from her retail experience to jump in and start selling Mister “P’s” principles of the Golden Rule and on time, every time as distinguishing factors of her truck line versus the competition.

Cindy has since learned all the ins and outs of the business. She shared that she’s done everything from cleaning toilets, sales, customer service, dispatch, you name it. She never wanted to ask anyone to do anything that she hasn’t, wouldn’t or couldn’t do herself. That’s why The Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12) “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” is the center and core of Mister “P” Express, Inc.

The third generation is now on board and proudly maintains the family owned and operated feel. “We treat everyone here like family, because they are.”  In a very competitive workforce economy, most employees stay with Mister “P” because they are valued as human beings and are not treated with a replaceable attitude. Mister “P” has several employees whose tenure exceeds 15 years. The company strongly believes in the development of each person and goes above standard benefits.

As I entered the grounds, I was surrounded with  beautiful décor and a wow factor with a personal gift just for visiting. People just don’t do the little things anymore to impress clients, employees and guests like Cindy. She is refreshing to say the least.

With 17 years under her belt as President and CEO, Cindy’s focus now is the transfer of the company to her daughter and son-in-lawfor a smooth succession plan. But let’s face it, and I’m sure the readers will agree, you never phase out of a family-owned business because it is your life and blood line. While she’s enjoying grandchildren and retail therapy, her goal is to keep molding the next generation’s character with respect and vision for their success in life. It’s important not to lose sight of things that matter and the balance necessary these days.

Lessons I learned from Cindy:

  1.        Ladies, don’t stay in a lane because you’re comfortable.
  2.        Don’t underestimate your strength.
  3.        Don’t let the unknown or a challenge intimidate you.
  4.        Embrace the power of support.
  5.        Acknowledge and appreciate the blessings in your life.

So ladies, don't just "stay in your lane" get out there and take the whole road!! Visit Mister “P” Express, INC to learn more details about this awesome company! www.misterpexpress.com
